Week 4

Deconstructions of exsisting films:

We have all chosen to do film deconstructions that correspond with the genre of our film trailer (thriller/romance). This way we will get an insight as to what qualities are needed to fit the mixed genre we are embarking upon.

Shutter Island (By Maria Schiavone)

This is the deconstruction of the 2010 American psychological thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

In the first slide displays a boat slowly emerging out of white mist. This alerts the audience immediately to the underlying message the film is trying to portray. Eveything is not as it seems, this also gives us an idea to the film genre Physcological thriller. The second image introduces the audience to the main character (Leonardo Dicaprio)using low resolution colours for a merky effect. As the shot is a close up shoulder shot, this emphasises that this character is important. The third shot displays the location of the main part of the film. The fourth shot is a continutation of the location of the story and shows a significant symbol of the film.

As displayed most of the shots used in the decostruction are minimalistic and dark, these features have connotations of physcological confusion and therefore inturn creates a curiosity for the audience. These types of shots allure the audience into wanting to know more about the film and whats going to happen.

Alice in Wonderland (By Katie Douglas)

This shows the deconstruction of the 2010 version of the film Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton. The film is a thriller/ action/comedy.Well acclaimed actors such as Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter star in the movie. This will encourage and draw wider audiences to watch the film. Another factor that will draw in a wider range of audiences would be the storyline of Alice in Wonderland, being a childrens story, it will attract families with young children.

The Titanic (By Grace Collis)

This is the deconstruction of the 1997 classic The Titanic starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Blanchett. It's a romantic tragedy a fine example for the sort of genre we are using for our film trailer. The actual film is a lengthy three hours or so, so the producers of the film trailer have extracted the best footage in order to intrigue the audience in wanting to watch the film.
